Croquet Intro

Teaching with Technology Today, Volume 10, Number 5

%u201CCroquet,%u201D a multi-institutional initiative under development at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Minnesota, the University of Kyoto, and the Hewlett Packard Research Labs. One of the driving forces behind the project is Alan Kay, the developer of the %u201Coverlapping windows%u201D computer interface and this year%u2019s winner of the Draper Prize (essentially, the Nobel Prize for engineers). Croquet represents the next step beyond the familiar desktop computer interface metaphor, a step made possible by Kay%u2019s open-source programming language and the advanced networking capabilities available on university campuses. Borrowing a phrase from the world of online gaming technologies, Croquet is %u201Ca massively multi-user three-dimensional environment.%u201D

Cool tools really work. A cool tool can be any book, gadget, software, video, map, hardware, material, or website that is tried and true. I am chiefly interested in stuff that is extraordinary, better than similar products, little-known, and reliably useful for an individual or small group. I depend on friends and readers to suggest things they actually use. There are plenty of places to read about stuff that should be cool, or that looks new and cool, and that might be useful.

Xtreme Programming

Extreme Programming: A Gentle Introduction.

XP is a refreshing new approach. XP is successful because it emphasizes customer involvement and promotes team work.

This is an interesting site both in design and in content. Worth a read.
