Free World Dialup (FWD) "works" by connecting FWD members who both have Broadband internet access with each other. When you register for FWD, you are assigned a FWD number. Once you register your FWD phone with the FWD Network, you are able to contact all of the other registered FWD members if they are on-line when you are.

FWD is a community network of worldwide broadband consumers who call each other using SIP phones. SIP phones come in many shapes and sizes. Some SIP phones are hardware based and others are software based, "Softphones" which run on your PC. One supported hardware device, the Cisco ATA-186 connects to both your broadband internet access and either a regular telephone or a cordless telephone.
