shORt snORter

This past weekend my Father presented me with some papers from my Grandfather. Among them was one of his short snorters, an envelope with a bunch of one and two dollar bills that were signed and had cello tape residue on the ends.

FYI here's background on what a Short Snorter is: Currency serves as notebook: Historical 50th anniversary feature

"... an aircrew member's short snorter was a chain of paper currency, taped together, end-to-end, from various countries they had visited. The longer your short snorter, the more countries you had visited. Long short-snorters also meant free drinks at the bar, since the person with the shortest one had to buy the round... "

I have discovered a short snorter dated 8/20/42. Along the side is written Curtiss-Wright. It is signed by Wm Kilbride, Putaky, and W L Wolf. If anyone has any info about this, please email me. I am eager to learn the history behind this bill. Thank you Janice Klenke Posted by: Janice Klenke on October 10, 2004 11:20 PM
In our old family album there has always been this folded up roll of money from different places from WWII. I didn't know what they were until recently I showed it to my father-in-law, a retired Air Force officer, who told me it was a "short snorter." This caused me to look up more on the internet. My dad's is signed by Ernie Pyle, and my mother always told me that it was signed just prior to his death. I hate to say it, but it didn't mean much to me when she would tell me this story, but, as we all know, you get more and more interested the older we get! I have a 9-bill "short-snorter" that had belonged to my uncle in WW2. Until now, I was not sure exactly what they were. There are signatures on both sides. Thanks for the information! Posted by: vf on October 21, 2002 08:17 PM
